About AAC
The ASEAN Acoustics Commission is a regional cooperation platform for recognised national acoustical societies in ASEAN.
AAC supports the exchange of knowledge, professional experience and scientific developments in acoustics, noise and vibration. It creates opportunities for joint conferences, technical workshops, education, research collaboration, standards dialogue and international engagement.
AAC complements the work of national societies. It does not replace their responsibilities, activities or independence.
What AAC works towards
AAC’s mission is to strengthen cooperation between acoustical societies in ASEAN and advance the contribution of acoustics to science, engineering, education, industry, public policy and quality of life.
Eight objectives
- Promote awareness and understanding of acoustics, noise and vibration.

- What is the ASEAN Acoustics Commission?
- A cooperation platform for the recognised national acoustical societies of Southeast Asia. Its current members are the Society of Acoustics (Singapore), the Society of Vibration and Acoustics Malaysia, the Asosiasi Akustik dan Vibrasi Indonesia and the Thai Association of Acoustics and Vibration.
- Is AAC part of the ASEAN Secretariat?
- No. AAC is a professional and scientific body formed by national acoustical societies. References to ASEAN describe the geographic region and do not imply affiliation with the ASEAN Secretariat or the governments of ASEAN member states.
- Can I join AAC as an individual?
- No. AAC has no individual membership. People take part through their national acoustical society, which appoints a representative to AAC. If you are in a country without a society, AAC can put you in contact with colleagues who have set one up elsewhere in the region.
- How does a national society join?
- Recognised national acoustical societies and professional associations in ASEAN countries not yet represented can open a dialogue with the secretariat at info@aac.asia. Participation is agreed through consultation between the existing member societies and the interested organisation.
- What is the ASEAN International Acoustics Conference?
- AIAC is the conference series run through AAC and hosted in turn by a member society. The first was held online in May 2023, the second with AAVI in December 2024, and the third is hosted by SVAM on 9 December 2026 in hybrid and online format.
- How is AAC governed?
- Each member society appoints one representative. Responsibility for chairing rotates between countries for two-year terms. Decisions are taken by consultation and consensus; no society holds a veto, and regional statements, guidelines and standards require unanimous agreement.
